Help Our Sweet Pup Koda Fight Glaucoma

Our beloved 1-year-old puppy, Koda, was recently diagnosed with Primary Glaucoma—a painful, progressive condition that has already taken the sight in one of his eyes. What started as what we thought was a simple eye infection quickly turned into something far more serious. Despite following the treatment prescribed by our vet, Koda's eye became increasingly cloudy and uncomfortable.

Trusting our instincts, we took him to a veterinary ophthalmologist for a second opinion. That’s when we got the heartbreaking news: the pressure in his eye was dangerously high—over 70 mmHg—and Koda was already completely blind in that eye. Worst of all, the only option to relieve his pain is to surgically remove the eye.

The specialist was shocked to see this condition in such a young dog. Unfortunately, because Primary Glaucoma is genetic, we were told it’s only a matter of time before Koda develops it in his remaining eye. He will now need lifelong care, including daily medication and exams every three months, just to try and preserve the vision he has left.

The upcoming surgery alone is estimated at $3,700–$4,786. That doesn't include the ongoing costs of medication, regular eye exams ($155 every 3 months), and the $1,000+ we've already spent on emergency visits and treatments. The pet insurance we have helps some, but does not cover any exam fees which are already at ($800) and only covers a percent of some treatments.

This has been an incredibly difficult and emotional journey. Watching our sweet, energetic pup go through this at such a young age has been devastating. We've never made a request like this before, but we're doing everything we can to give Koda the care he needs—and we’re asking for help as a last resort.
