Help Our Mum Fight Colon Cancer

Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,

My name is Ngozi and I am reaching out for support during a very challenging time for our family. My wonderful mum, Felicia Ugwu, a strong and loving woman, travelled from Nigeria to the UK in May 2024 to help me after I gave birth to my baby. She came to be by my side during this joyful, but exhausting time, and to meet her new grandchild.

While she was here, our world was turned upside down.

what started as a happy visit quickly turned into a nightmare. My mum was unexpectedly diagnosed with blood clots in her lungs, enlarged heart and the most shocking news of all Colon bowel cancer, and this has placed an unimaginable burden on our family, both emotionally and financially.

She bravely underwent treatment including surgery but because my mum isn’t covered by the NHS, we are faced with mounting medical bills and we are struggling to cover the costs of her treatment. The cost is currently at £42,718 which includes multiple scans, colorectal surgery resulting in her needing a stoma bag, blood transfusions, medications, hospital stay and other essentials care. We were hopeful that she was on the path of recovery.

However our hopes were shattered with the result of her most recent scans. They revealed that the cancer has metastasized to her lungs. This means she now requires further treatments, We have now been asked to go private so we have to pay upfront, the financial burden is immense we are struggling and we are determined to make sure she gets the treatment she needs. We are doing everything we can, but we cannot do this alone.

My mum has always been the heart of our family—strong, caring, and generous. She has shown incredible strength and resilience but now she needs our help more than ever. We are raising £60,000 to help cover the cost of her treatment. Your support will not only help us manage the financial strain but also give her the best chance to recovery and more time with her family, especially her new grandchild.
