Support the families of East Oakland’s Acorn Woodland’s Elementary School
COVID19 has affected us all. As businesses and schools close, many people are left without work, without an income, and without a guarantee that their basic needs can be met. The livelihood of our community is at stake, and the families of Acorn Woodland Elementary School really need us right now.
I've been an Oakland educator for over 20 years, and as the principal of Acorn Woodland, I'm dedicated to the community I serve. The past few weeks, my amazing teachers and I have been working really hard to get our students set up with computers, internet, and all the tools they need to keep learning. We believe that all students in Oakland deserve an equal chance of success, and we put our hearts and all our effort into ensuring this happens.
Now, Acorn Woodland students and their families need our support.
Our staff is concerned for their basic needs. 92% of the students in East Oakland qualify for free or reduced lunch, and many of the families do not qualify for the benefits allotted by the government – including unemployment and food stamps.
The teachers with whom I work and I dedicate our time, our money, and all of our effort to our students and their families because we truly believe in showing up for each other. Please join us by making a donation to our student’s and their families, so that our beautiful community can feel cared for and supported in this time of great uncertainty.
