Hi - I'm Catie, and I’m fundraising for my lifelong best friend, Nikki, who is facing a life-altering medical journey.

After more than 25 years as a dedicated Dental Hygienist, Nikki has been forced to stop working due to severe osteochondrosis and disc bulging in her lower back. The pain has become unbearable, and despite trying countless treatments, nothing has brought her lasting relief. Her quality of life has deteriorated dramatically over the past five years, and she has recently had to leave the career she loves.

Nikki has been working with one of the few neurosurgeons in Canada who could help her, but he recently informed her that he will no longer be performing surgeries due to his own health issues. With limited options in Canada, Nikki has researched alternatives and found that Germany offers the best surgical solution for her condition. The cost of the surgery is approximately $50,000 CAD, and that doesn’t include travel, lost wages or post-op therapy.

Nikki is one of the most generous, playful, and kind-hearted souls you’ll ever meet. She’s the kind of person who goes out of her way to help strangers and animals alike, supports her friends, and loves her family fiercely. She’s been my best friend of over 40 years and has not only been there for me, but anyone else that needs her. Now, she needs us.

Nikki moved to BC 25 years ago to embrace the outdoors (hiking, snowboarding, volleyball) and built a beautiful life in the Sea to Sky area. She’s worked in multiple dental offices and is deeply loved by her patients and colleagues. Nikki has also volunteered her skills in remote Indigenous communities and on international dental missions, bringing care to those who need it most.

This surgery is her chance to reclaim her life, reduce her pain, and possibly return to the career she loves. Without it, she faces not only ongoing suffering but also the daunting prospect of retraining for a new career that won’t further damage her spine.
