On Monday, February 15th, Nick left home at 3am for his job doing snow removal during a winter storm in Missoula, MT. After finishing work for the day, he was heading home on icy roads along Hwy 93 S a little before noon. A van coming the opposite direction was driving recklessly and crossed over the center line, causing Nick's car to crash into the passenger side of the van. The wreck was horrific, and a 10-year-old boy who was in the front seat of the van was killed. Nick suffered damage to his carotid artery and liver, and his arm was broken so severely that he required over 24 hours in the hospital and additional surgery to have pins put in. The driver of the van did not have vehicle insurance and a toxicology report revealed that she had a blood alcohol content almost three times the legal limit.
Nick's job is his family's primary income, and he has been unable to work since the accident. His doctors foresee at least 2 months of healing and PT before he is able to return to his physical labor job as a landscaping and snow removal crew leader. He will have medical bills for his ambulance ride, hospital stay, surgery, follow-up appointments, and 2 months of Physical Therapy. His vehicle is totaled and unfortunately he only had liability insurance that did not cover uninsured drivers.
Nick and his family have endured an immense amount of physical, emotional, and financial trauma. If you are able to, any financial relief you could provide for this deserving family would be very much appreciated.
Please keep the families of all those involved in this devastating crash in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.
