Hi, we’re Always & Furever — a No Kill ❤️ No Kennel sanctuary with homes across Kansas and Missouri. We’re raising money for Nala Rose, a 14-year-old pit bull who is in the ICU at BluePearl right now, fighting aspiration pneumonia.

Where Nala’s story begins

Two weeks ago, Nala lost everything. Her owner passed away, her family surrendered her to a high-kill shelter in Oklahoma City, and because of her age she was placed on the euthanasia list. Stiff legs, cloudy eyes, the gentlest soul — and no one coming for her.

We didn’t have a foster lined up. We said yes anyway.

Learning to trust again

Nala arrived at our Little Red Barn in Spring Hill, Kansas, frozen with fear. Within days she was napping on the couch, wearing a sweater of her own, and leaning into every hand that reached for her. She is potty trained, gentle with the other seniors, and loves nothing more than a cuddle. Her eyes will tell you everything if you sit and listen.

Then one morning, she couldn’t breathe

Last week Nala came down with kennel cough and had started to improve. Then, after going outside one morning, she suddenly began gasping for air. We carried her to the car and rushed her to BluePearl.

The diagnosis: aspiration pneumonia. She has a fever and is in an oxygen kennel receiving breathing treatments, IV fluids, and IV antibiotics. She’s in isolation, so we can’t even go in to hold her and tell her she’s safe.

The care we’re providing

The veterinarians expect Nala to need oxygen and hospital care for about three days. BluePearl’s estimate is $5,318 to $7,489. We’ve committed to every bit of it. At Always & Furever, we don’t believe age, breed, or medical needs make a life less worthy. Whether a dog has days, months, or years, we love them to their very last breath.

And here’s the good news: Nala is getting stronger every hour. The medicine and breathing treatments are working. She is turning the corner. ❤️

• Every dollar goes to Nala’s hospital bill at BluePearl: the oxygen kennel, breathing treatments, IV medications, and hospitalization.

• If we raise more than her final bill, the difference covers her follow-up care — recheck visits, medications, and the dental work she needs.

• Anything beyond that goes to the next senior we say yes to.

What’s next for Nala

When she’s well enough to leave the hospital, she’ll go to a quiet home with a soft bed and someone checking on her — exactly what a 14-year-old girl deserves while she heals.
