Help My Husband Get the Heart Transplant That Will Save His Life
My husband is 40 years old and fighting for his life. Two weeks ago, I received the call every spouse dreads—the doctors told me to call in family “just in case.” His heart is failing, and without a transplant, we’re running out of time.
Our 12-Year Battle
For 12 years, my husband has courageously battled cardiomyopathy. Three years ago, his condition became so severe that Christ Hospital placed him on their heart transplant list. But when he developed fungal pneumonia, they removed him from the list and implanted an LVAD device so he could recover at home.
After months of healing and following every medical recommendation, we returned with hope—only to be told he would no longer be considered for transplant. We later discovered the devastating truth: because he has both cardiomyopathy and a rare autoimmune condition, this new transplant facility didn’t want to “mess up their numbers” with his complex case.
A System That Has Failed Us
Since then, four other hospitals have rejected him without even conducting proper testing, all because of his dual diagnosis. Meanwhile, his condition continues to deteriorate.
Two weeks ago, his heart took a critical turn. A leaky valve is causing the right side of his heart to fail, putting dangerous stress on all his organs. We were told Cleveland Clinic might be able to repair the valve and get him back on a transplant list—our last hope in Ohio.
After a week and a half in Cleveland’s ICU, we received more devastating news: they cannot fix the valve and won’t even evaluate him for transplant. Their reasons? Minor medication compliance issues from years ago (which we’ve addressed) and the fact that he takes anxiety medication while hospitalized with a failing heart.
Our Next Hope: Vanderbilt
Our next option is Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee—five hours from our Cincinnati home. This means starting over: new doctors, new evaluations, new hope. But it also means new expenses we simply cannot afford.
We’ve already exhausted our resources during weeks in Cleveland, paying for lodging, meals, and travel for family members who’ve supported us through this nightmare. The thought of doing it all again in Tennessee is overwhelming, but we’ll do whatever it takes.
Why We Need Your Help
My husband dreams of tending to our homestead, of growing old together, of having the future we’ve planned for 12 long years. At just 40 years old, he has so much life left to live.
I will fight and advocate for him every step of the way, but I cannot do this alone. The financial burden of:
- Extended stays out of during evaluation and surgery
- Lodging and meals for family support
- Travel costs
- Medical expenses not covered by insurance
- Lost income during this critical time
…is more than we can handle while focusing on saving his life.
Every Dollar Brings Us Closer to Hope
Your donation—whether $5 or $500—brings us one step closer to getting my husband the heart transplant that will save his life. You’re not just helping with expenses; you’re helping us fight a medical system that has repeatedly failed us, and you’re giving a 40-year-old man the chance to live.
Thank you for reading our story. Thank you for caring. Thank you for helping us turn this nightmare into a new beginning.
*We will keep you updated on his progress and are grateful for any support, whether financial or simply sharing our story.*
