Help My Furry Daughter Heal After Tragic Accident

Donation protected
I've hand/bottle raised my baby girl since before her eyes and ears were open. She came into the shelter after her siblings and Mom were fatally wounded by a dog. She was the only survivor. She was extremely fractious and feral growing up in the shelter. She was going to be euthanized for behavior at only 6 weeks old. I begged my parents to let me foster her so she could have the chance to be adopted and they said yes. Of course I couldn't let her go and she became my first personal pet as an adult. She has went through every milestone with me for the past 5 years. She's been with me through my best and worst times and all across the country. Everyone who knows her knows she's the epitome of a companion animal, loves unconditionally, and is the floppiest never ending purr motor around.

At 10:45pm February 13th, 2025 we were out of town and she was struck by a vehicle in a freak accident of events. It happened too fast for anyone to intervene. She was struck by a rear wheel to her face.

(TRIGGER WARNING: Gore)
Her right eye immediately swelled with blood and both eyes, nose, and mouth bled. She was drooling a lot of fluid. Her right eyelid had an inch split going up towards her ear making it impossible for her to operate the protruding eye if there was any hope to begin with. She collapsed after moments when her adrenaline wore off and was wheezing/gurgling. There was obvious trauma, internal bleeding and unknown further internal damage.
(TRIGGER WARNING: end)

We didn't think she would make it through the night but after calling all somewhat nearby emergency vets, they all declined her. They didn't have the proper tools or education needed to safely operate on her. The only available option was to wait until morning. She eventually fell asleep with me in bed. I waited until vet offices began to open to call every single one down the list online and they all refused her for similar reasons. My final option was to drive out of town to a thoroughly experienced vet once she started to wake up.

We paid $182 just to get through the door. $5004 for diagnostics, surgery, and overnight monitoring. $173 at pickup for take home medication. A few $$$ more personally on at home tools to keep her safe and healing comfortably during the coming weeks since she had significant brain swelling making her quite uncoordinated. And of course my overnight stay in the other town was an added expense. Needless to say, we were not prepared for this financially.

She is my literal daughter. I don't know what I'd do without her. I'm thankful we were able to scramble the funds together so that she could be healing next to me today but we don't have a steady plan to pay it off or get through the rest of our expenses going forward. Anything helps. A single dollar is deeply appreciated. We're counting pennies.

Anyone with pets knows they're family and I'd suffer for life if it means they get to thrive. Never take them for granted because we never anticipated this and she's a rare case of overnight survival without immediate intervention. Just like people or any other living thing, you never know when tragedy might strike. We're blessed to have her home safe with her one pretty eye. She's a permanent winky face and we love her the same.
