On April 27th, a wind storm hit our city and knocked a massive tree down directly onto our household. The damage was so severe that our home is not livable at the moment, and my family—myself, my wife, our two kids (ages 13 and 2), and our two dogs and two cats—are currently staying in a hotel while we search for rental options. The repair process is going to be long-term, and while we're working with insurance, there are deductibles, deposits, and unexpected expenses that keep popping up. We're also still responsible for the mortgage on the house that's currently unlivable, and the repairs could take months or even a year. On top of that, one of our vehicles was hit by the tree and may be totaled. We're in the process of having it looked at to see if it can be salvaged or if we'll need to find a replacement.
Any help we receive will go toward deposits on rentals, hotel costs, emergency expenses for our pets, moving costs, making sure my son can get to school from our new location, and possibly helping us replace our vehicle if it can't be salvaged. We're trying to cover anything we need to keep our family safe and together while our home is being repaired. This situation has brought challenges we never expected, and we're doing our best to stay strong and keep moving forward.
I'm not one to normally ask for help, and I questioned whether or not I wanted to do this. I'm just trying to find a way to keep my family moving forward and get us back to where we were before all this happened. Any help is very much appreciated and will go toward supporting my family, getting us back on our feet, and restoring our home to a living standard.
