Help Mimi Fight for Her Golden Years
Don protégé
“Help Mimi get the urgent treatment she needs to enjoy her golden years.”
This is the story of my beloved dog, Mimi.
Back in 2010, I came across an ad on Gumtree for a tiny puppy. When I met the seller, he handed me this fragile little pup who hadn’t even opened her eyes yet. I couldn’t let her go back, so I held her in my arms and promised her a forever home. That was the day my journey with Mimi began.
From her very first weeks, Mimi faced serious health challenges. She suffered from severe eczema and skin conditions, and together with the vet, we tried treatment after treatment. When it seemed hopeless, one last cream worked — and she survived. From then on, Mimi lived on a strict salmon-only diet, and we made it work, together.
For the past 15 years, Mimi has been my loyal companion and the brightest part of my life. She is resilient, brave, and has fought through so much. Over the years, she has battled:
>> Immune Mediated Polyarthritis (IMPA), which required long-term high-dose steroids.
>> Calcium buildup on her eye, which caused painful ulcers.
>> Oronasal fistula, a serious condition that recently required major surgery.
Each of these conditions is treatable, and with the advice of three different veterinary specialists, we decided to give Mimi every chance to keep living a comfortable and happy life.
But the cost of these ongoing treatments, specialist appointments, surgeries, and medications has completely depleted my savings. Right now, Mimi is in the emergency unit, being monitored closely with IV fluids and injectable medications.
Mimi urgently needs more IV fluids to help flush out toxins from her kidneys while she is kept in hospital. Because she is not eating, it is impossible to administer her medication orally — which means she must be fed and medicated (including antibiotics) via injections. This alone costs $1,500–$2,000 per day.
On top of this, Mimi is at risk of rupturing her gallbladder. To monitor this, she requires an abdominal ultrasound ($900), and possibly a CT scan ($3,900 including sedation and hospitalisation). To date, Mimi has undergone multiple CT scans, ultrasound scans, radiographs, and consultations with three specialist veterinarians (internal medicine, eye specialist, and dental specialist), which has cost a fortune and completely depleted my savings..
Here’s a transparent look at the costs we’re facing to give Mimi the care she urgently needs:
Estimated Costs Going Forward:
>> Each emergency overnight hospitalisation: $2200 - 4,400
>> IV fluids & injectable meds: $1,500–$2,000 per day (3–5 days = $4,500–$10,000)
>> Ultrasound: $900
>> CT scan (if required): $3,900
>>> Total expected range: $9,800 – $16,700 AUD
Our fundraising goal is $15,000 AUD, which will cover Mimi’s imminent emergency bills, 4–5 days of hospitalisation, the ultrasound, and the CT scan if needed.
I want nothing more than to give Mimi the care she needs so she can live out her senior years with comfort and love. She has fought so hard for every day of her life, and I’m not ready to give up on her.
This is where I need your help.
Any donation — no matter how small — will go directly toward Mimi’s medical costs, emergency care, and ongoing treatment. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this page so Mimi’s story can reach others who might be able to help.
Mimi has been my family, my best friend, and my heart for 15 years. With your support, she can keep enjoying the life she has fought so hard to hold onto.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading Mimi’s story and for helping us continue this journey together. ❤️
