Help Luke Fight Cancer: A Journey of Resilience
Donation protected
If you know Luke, you know how fiercely determined he is. For his entire adult life, he has pursued his passion for art, refusing to let anything stand in the way of his dreams. As an entrepreneur in New York City, Luke does specialized welding and has showcased his incredible work and sculptures throughout the city. Now, he faces his greatest challenge yet: a battle for his life against cancer.
What began as a shoulder injury has turned into a life-altering journey filled with unexpected challenges and painful diagnoses. In mid-July, Luke began experiencing intense pain in his right shoulder and noticed blood in his urine. Initially believing these symptoms were due to a torn muscle, he sought medical help, only to discover that his shoulder was broken. This was just the beginning of a harrowing ordeal.
On August 30th, believing he was suffering from kidney stones, Luke went to the emergency room. A CT scan revealed a tumor on his right kidney measuring 14 cm by 11.6 cm by 10 cm—about the size of a lunchbox—along with blood clots obstructing his bladder. The diagnosis was further compounded by potential metastasis to the shoulder he'd broken, ribs, and lungs.
Adding to his struggles, Luke soon discovered that his health insurance was fraudulent. Without wasting time, he began the process of obtaining proper coverage, knowing that every moment mattered in securing the treatment he desperately needed. Thankfully, he was able to access state health coverage and began his treatment journey at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Since then, Luke has endured multiple biopsies, scans, and consultations with leading specialists. His first appointment with Dr. Martin Henner Voss on September 10th brought a glimmer of hope—he learned that his case was not hopeless. Luke started immunotherapy and radiation therapy to target the metastasis in his shoulder, facing side effects and setbacks that would challenge anyone’s spirit. On October 23rd, an allergic reaction during his second immunotherapy dose forced a halt in his treatment.
Despite these overwhelming trials, Luke has not succumbed to despair. Instead, he has approached this challenge with remarkable positivity and grace, determined not to let this battle define him. However, each day he is unable to work takes a toll. As an entrepreneurial artist and a father to a five-year-old daughter, he faces mounting financial pressures—housing, food, studio space, insurance, and transportation costs. His decreasing ability to work puts him at risk of financial hardship.
Your support can make a profound difference in Luke’s life. By contributing to his fundraising campaign, you are not just helping to cover essential living costs while he cannot work; you are providing him with hope, strength, and the peace of mind to focus on healing rather than financial stress.
Let’s come together to show Luke that he is not alone in this battle. Every donation, no matter the size, is a step toward ensuring he can take the time he needs to overcome this challenge. Help Luke reclaim his life—your generosity can light his path forward. Please consider donating and sharing Luke’s fundraiser with your friends and family.
