Help Kyle and Family Through This Tough Journey
Donation protected
Hi, I am Teka's mom, Kyle's mother-in-law. Kyle has been like our own kid for over 17 years. Through the years, all of us have watched them overcome many things, and some they haven't. Many of us have also watched them help others when no one else would, whether it was to give their time, money, or whatever. Well, now is the time they (Kyle) need the help returned. I will post his story in a bit, but I need to clarify the reason behind this fundraiser: they have the ability to take care of their children, including 3 more foster kiddos. What this is for is the added expenditures that they do not have of the travels to Portland as Kyle fights for his life.
Here is his story:
This is a difficult message to write, but it’s time I post something about it. I want to be open and honest with you all as my life is going to drastically change now. I've been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. This means the cancer has spread, and it's a lot to process. I'm sharing this because I'm sure we are going to need some help in the next couple of months, and I want you to understand what's happening.
Receiving this diagnosis has brought a whirlwind of emotions for myself and my family. I'm also trying to focus on the things that bring me joy and seeking out the positive in each day. Teka and the kids are being supportive, and Teka is focused on making sure the kids have the same routines and keep their appointments and normal days. She is great at asking for help with our kids and I’m sure will reach out as needed.
If you're wondering how you can support me and my family, here are some ways:
Practical support, like help with errands, meals, and transportation for our kids (we have an amazing family and caregivers who will be able to help most of the time), anything will be invaluable. Emotional support is also crucial. Knowing that I have people to listen and offer a friendly hand can make a big difference for me. I'm also learning to set healthy boundaries, and it's okay if I'm not always available or able to respond immediately. I am actively seeking treatment and am focused on spending time with my family as much as possible. I know God has a plan, and I have faith that He is in control.
(The practical support as in meals, property maintenance, and house help will be posted separately.)
