Help Kodi Move To California for Specialized Support

Aloha, my name is Dolly, and I’m fundraising for my incredible son Kodi.

Kodin has with Angelman Syndrome since birth. He was born in Kealakekua in 1995. He has faced immense challenges his whole life. Kodin needs a safe and stable living situation in order to thrive. We have had to make the difficult decision to move to California to get assistance with his care and housing. He will have the medical supports, and will be able to develop friendships with other special needs adults, and have caregivers again. Both of Kodi’s caregivers this year left to work with candidates who require less care.

I cannot care for Kodi at the level he requires on my own and Kodi needs care after I am gone. He should be developing relationships that last his lifetime, so that other people familiar with his wants and needs can make better decisions about his future when I have passed away. He requires several caregivers 24 hours, and a safe home.

The process to find a home for us until we get guardianship in California, get accepted into a Regional Center program, get all his legal documents transferred and then creating and waiting for a care home for a developmentally disabled man with severe behavioral issues, is going to take a long time. Several years I am guessing from speaking with professionals.

I have been writing folks for about a year now all over the US and Canada, and I finally found a program that will work, it will just take time.

We will need an place to live and a vehicle (I have to sell my truck to pay off the loan). We will not have income right away. We will need all new essential items to start off in a new place. Also, flights for whomever can come to help me get him there safely. Last time we travelled was a terrifying journey, so I am so nervous and scared. But I know this is right. Being housebound in Hawaii for years hasn’t been good for any of us.

We are now in a time sensitive situation and urgently need to raise funds to make this life-changing move possible.
