Help Kem Continue the Fight

Our friend, Kem, was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma Thanksgiving of last year.  In December, she underwent a lumpectomy removing several tumors.  

Unfortunately, more cancer was discovered after the procedure that wasn't previously detected by scans, so in January, Kem had a bilateral mastectomy.  We were thrilled when scans found the cancer had not spread into the lymph nodes and chemotherapy was not necessary.

Since then, Kem has had reconstructive surgery and is scheduled in May for a second surgery followed by several, smaller cosmetic procedures.

Last week, Kem's previous neurological condition, trigeminal neuralgia, surfaced again causing her doctors to recommend discontinuing her hormone anti-cancer therapy.  We are hoping MRIs scheduled for later this month will discover the root of the severe nerve pain this condition causes.

We all know the struggle of being self-employed and finding quality, affordable healthcare.  Kem's family has the challenge of a high deductible that has just reset in February leaving them with $20,000 of expenses out-of-pocket so far this year.

Any assistance to go towards the existing and ongoing medical costs for Kem's fight would alleviate one of the many stressors that the family is going through at this time.
