Hello dear friends, this is Jessica, she has worked in my husband’s restaurant for five years. She is the sweetest soul and a hard worker who has helped hold down the fort for us through Covid, the births of our babies, tariffs, inflation, you name it. This is her father, Juan. He was taken by ICE from the Carwash where he works on the 4th of July. He has lived and worked in the US for 30 years and paid his taxes the entire time. Jessica has met with four different immigration attorneys and they have all told her there is not much they can do. Even if Juan tried to contest the deportation, he would have to wait until a judge can hear his case, which could be months. During this period, he would remain in the detention center, in abhorrent, inhumane conditions. Juan is elderly and has gout and does not have access to his medication while in the detention center, Jessica has to take a bus to bring it to him. He has told Jessica that it is freezing cold, overcrowded, they barely get anything to eat, they don't get enough water, they can't bathe and they have to use the toilet in front of each other. Due to the unbearable conditions he is experiencing in the detention center, Jessica has informed us that Juan has decided to self deport. The US is deporting people with just the clothes on their backs. Juan does not even know where he will be sent. All his children are US citizens. In Jessica's words:
"They are sending my father away empty handed after 30 years of working here and paying taxes. He needs help so he can take some of his belongings to wherever he is deported. He needs resources (food, shelter) until he finds a job and can access medical care, since he needs medication for his condition.
My father moved to the US with the intention of giving his daughters a better life. We were young at the time, and the situation in our country didn't allow him to get a decent education. He has also been responsible for his mother's expenses ever since since she has preexisting health issues and could not work, helping her pay rent and basic expenses.
I love everything about my father, especially his nobility, his dedication, his determination to always seek the best for his family and the strength that makes him stand out and keeps him from giving up. He is a person full of kindness and always looks for ways to help others.
We like spending time as a family because my father always works, so whenever we could, we would share a meal together, cut cake for whoever was celebrating their birthday, and sit down and talk. I love every story he told me about his childhood because it shows where his sweetness comes from. I've learned so much from him. Every time he could, he would teach how to fix things. I love him and miss him like you have no idea. It breaks my heart. And with all this in front of my father, it breaks my heart to see him filled with the desire to get ahead in life, working humbly every day without harming anyone."
Please consider chipping in ANY amount that you can. Every penny will go towards funding Juan's basic necessities when he is deported.
