Hi everyone,
I’m creating this fundraiser for my dog, Jonah, who has been by my side for nearly his entire life.
Jonah was born on May 3, 2012. When he was just a puppy, he was adopted from an animal shelter in South Carolina after being part of a litter of dogs that had come from an abusive situation. I brought Jonah home when he was only about two months old, and I’ve had the privilege of raising him ever since.
Anyone who has met Jonah knows the kind of dog he is.
He has always been incredibly calm and mellow. He hardly ever barks, he has never been aggressive, and he is friendly with both people and other dogs. If you give him the choice, though, he will almost always walk over to say hello to a person first. Jonah has always seemed to see the best in people.
He can definitely be stubborn at times, but that is part of what makes him Jonah.
Even at 14 years old, he is still a joyful dog. He loves getting out of the house, going on car rides, being around people, and simply spending time with us.
Recently, however, we noticed that a mass on the right side of Jonah’s head had begun growing more quickly. We took him to the veterinarian for further testing, and X-rays revealed an aggressive lesion affecting the frontal bone of his skull. The radiologist is concerned that this could potentially be a form of bone cancer, but at this time, **Jonah has NOT been officially diagnosed with cancer**.
We are currently in the process of scheduling a biopsy so that we can finally understand exactly what we are dealing with and determine the best path forward for him.
The encouraging news so far is that his chest X-rays did not show any obvious evidence that the disease has spread to his lungs or chest.
From here, Jonah may need a biopsy, additional imaging, oncology consultations, and depending on the diagnosis, possible radiation, medication, or other forms of treatment. Because of his age, every decision we make will also be centered around his comfort and quality of life.
Unfortunately, veterinary care, especially specialty diagnostics and oncology, can become incredibly expensive very quickly.
That is why I am asking for help.
Any money raised will go directly toward Jonah’s medical care, including his biopsy, diagnostic testing, specialist and oncology appointments, imaging, medications, and any treatment that may be recommended once we have a confirmed diagnosis.
Jonah has spent more than 14 years giving nothing but love, companionship, and happiness to the people around him. He has been with me through such a huge portion of my life, and I want to give him every reasonable opportunity to continue enjoying his life while making sure he is comfortable and cared for.
If you are able to donate, no matter how small the amount, it would mean more to us than I can put into words.
And if you aren’t in a position to donate, simply sharing Jonah’s story would help tremendously.
Right now, we are taking things one step at a time. We don’t know exactly what the future holds yet, but we are going to continue doing everything we reasonably can for him.
Thank you for reading Jonah’s story, for caring about him, and for helping us give this sweet little guy the care he deserves.
From Jonah and me, thank you. ❤️
