Mum and Dad (Jane & Mike) were recently scammed because they chose to love and trust someone. They have now lost out on over £1000 and are brokenhearted.
They received a message from someone who they had previously hosted via an online bed and breakfast app. This person was becoming homeless due to the COVID pandemic and had no money, so was asking if they would let them stay and they would pay them later when they started their new job.
Andre (we don't know his surname) came to stay and they welcomed him in. Dad lent him his bike (every day), cash to buy food, they cooked him dinner regularly and when they couldn't lend him more money (because they have no income and just dad's state retirement) they shared their food with him.
They found out it was his birthday and Mum baked him a birthday cake and got him a card. He had no spare clothes and wore the same trainers and trackies every day, so they contacted their friends and family and had people send them clothes and shoes. He ended up with some brand new trainers and enough clothes to wear and wash in rotation.
Mum and Dad went above and beyond.
While this was happening Dad would regularly say to Andre what the running total was, £300, £600 and then eventually £1000. He promised he would have the money soon and that his sister was sending it to him but this didn't materialise.
Once it reached £1000 and after many times being told it was coming soon, Dad challenged him and told him that they needed the money and that was his final chance.
The next morning he had left in the night, taking all of his belongings, some keys to their house (they cannot afford to change the locks), and perhaps most painfully money out of the savings pot my parents have been filling for years.
Mum checked his room and he had only left the birthday card she got him, which was particularly hurtful to her.
Dad has since investigated and found out that Andre had lied about the job and the company he said he worked for (where Dad had driven him on more than one occasion). They had never heard of him and they weren't hiring anyway.
Mum and Dad feel totally and utterly violated and gutted. They are down a huge sum of money that they really cannot afford and now have no way to recoup but most of all their trust has been broken.
I would love to surprise them with help towards their financial loss, they have no idea this is happening and have no expectations at all. Anything to help towards blessing them would be so appreciated.
