Rachel Schuchardts 50th How About A BIGGER Kitchen
Don protégé
If you have ever donated to a gofundme or any other kind of fundraiser you have probably watched some high production quality video made by a professional who knows just how to pluck the heart strings of their target audience. However, that would not capture my mother. What captures her is this simple, blurry, picture of my dear mother, with a smile on her face and a child at her breast.
I have decided to create this gofundme for my mother because she needs a new house...let me rephrase that. The world needs my mother to have a new house. For those of you who have not been to our current home, it is a total of 1,400 square feet, has two bedrooms and a small kitchen. With people flooding through our doors on a daily basis and our family of 12 continuously growing, 1,400 square feet is not enough space to bring in the amount of people that my mother desires to minister to through her gift of hospitality. If you have ever been a part of our families life, whether it was the early years in Jersey, the middle years in Europe and Maine, or the the current years in Wheaton you have without a doubt been served amazing food by Rachel Schuchardt. Some of my very first memories are of pushing through people legs in our 600 square foot apartment in Jersey because I wanted to find mom but there were so many people gathered there to eat and drink and live that finding mom seemed hopeless. When I was young, I did not understand that this was special. But, I am no longer a child. Now I see the true ministry of my mothers work. Thinking about it as I write I still just can't believe it. She is raising and feeding and teaching 10 children and somehow she always has a little extra for any lonely soul that wonders through our door. A little extra food, A little extra tea, A little extra time to have a good conversation.
Ok ok I don't want to just ramble...
...Just one more thing. There is a series of books called the Ralph Moody books and in them Moody says that every person has a character house, and no matter what you are always either adding boards to your character house or you are tearing boards off. I love this image and when I think about my mother and the true and incredible woman she is I can't help but think of what a mansion her character house must be.
So, if you have ever experienced the incredible hospitality of my mother please consider donating to this SECRET gofundme. Here are the specifics put simply:
She is turning 50 on July 9th. The fundraiser will run from now (Mothers Day) until her birthday. This gives us exactly two months to raise the money. For 12 years she has dreamed about having a kitchen and a dining room big enough for the hospitality she is capable of. We as her friends and family are going to raise 300k to buy her the house she wants...A house that can hold more people. We would like to purchase it as soon as possible so that on her actual birthday we can have a party (in the new house) for her and everyone who has been a part of her life.
On a side note: if the goal is not reached and we are not able to all pull together enough for the new house then all donations will be put towards improvements on her current home to make it a more hospitable and welcoming space.
This gofundme is completely secret so PLEASE DO NOT TELL HER. She is not on social media at all so as long as no one tells her in person it will actually be very easy to keep this as a total secret!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and your donations will be deeply appreciated and used for something that is truly good!
