Help for the Stabryla family
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Meghan Chmielewski and I am trying to raise funds to help my sister, Lori Chmielewski Stabryla, my brother-in-law James Stabryla and my niece Ava Stabryla.
On November 4, 2022 our world changed drastically. I say, "Our" because this is my family who resides on the other side of our double home. James "Jim" Stabryla, 61 has Type 2 Diabetes and developed a severe infection in his left leg which lead to the amputation of the leg from the knee down. He was transferred to a rehabilitation center where he was starting the process on receiving a prosthetic leg. Things were looking up and he was getting stronger by the day. He was discharged on the Thursday before Christmas and was able to be home for the holidays. Unfortunately, he had a massive fall which landed him back in the hospital on January 1, 2023. He fractured 2 bones in his spine and the infection ended up rebounding and traveling up his spine and into his brain. He is, as of now, paralyzed from the waist down and not doing well at all. He started a long round of intravenous antibiotics which unfortunately were not helpful and he ended spending a week in the ICU.
Due to all of this, it has forced Jim into early retirement. He was a caseworker for the Dept of Welfare for Pennsylvania. He had been employed by the State of PA for nearly the last 3 decades. He has always been a helper and would do anything to help anyone in need. Those who know him, know exactly what I'm talking about.
My sister, Lori Chmielewski Stabryla, (Jim's wife) has been teaching at West Scranton High School for the last 25 years and my niece, Ava is a 2022 graduate of West Scranton High School.
Lori has ALWAYS been a very hard worker. I have to admit that, as her younger sister (and only sibling) she has always made me so proud. She never ceases me to amaze me though! Lori has juggled many jobs ontop of being an Educator, mother, wife, sister and friend. During this whole situation she was the score keeper for both the Boys' & Girls' basketball teams at West Scranton High School...that income helped them greatly. Unfortunately basketball season has come to an end and now I am watching my sister trying to manage a full time career, getting to the hospital daily to be with Jim and my niece is working for DoorDash every single day to bring some income in.
My main reason for doing this fundraiser is because they lost Jim's income completely and the medical bills just keep adding up while they are trying to just get through each day. It breaks my heart because, they are the people who always help everyone else and right now, they are hurting and in need.
Thanking all of you in advance for any help that you can give. Hugs and prayers to all of you.
