Help for Dexter and Emily

A message from Emily Whitehead…

To each and every one of our incredible family, friends, colleagues, theatre pals and the many other well wishers (some that don’t even know us) that have been kind enough to donate to the go-fund me page, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 

We just can’t believe the response. It’s totally overwhelming and we cannot tell you how truly grateful we are for every single message of love and support and for the numerous offers of help that we have received far and wide. We have been blown away by how many people care about us as a family and in our darkest hour please know that it was your support, love and kindness that has held us up and given us strength. 

Almost two weeks on and we are still in Romania. Dexter is making little improvements every day, he has been able to stand and can walk a short distance, which is miraculous considering where we were on the 16th of September. He is building the strength in his right arm slowly and day by day he is gradually saying more and more words, not necessarily in the right order but he is giving it his all and occasionally swearing! Of course, he has a long road ahead which will not only include physical rehabilitation and speech therapy but we have learnt that he will also require heart surgery on his return to the UK for a large hole and several smaller holes that they have found in his heart (the cause of the stroke).

Dexter as you know is a larger than life character and nothing of his personality has diminished, he has a sheer determination and passion for life to get back everything that he has temporarily lost and I truly believe that he will. 

We have been surrounded by so much positivity, empathy and compassion. Sadly, there are one or two individuals that have used this life changing crisis for us as an opportunity to further their own agendas. This has caused us additional stress and upset that was not only totally unnecessary but to be honest downright heartless and cruel. Thankfully they are in the minority and we will not allow their negativity to hinder Dexter’s recovery in any way. They won’t win and believe me when I say he will eventually be back stronger than ever so they’d better be ready! 

It as times like this that you realise and value what is important in life and who is important in your life. We are undoubtedly a strong team that stand together in the face of adversity and we will come through this together but with you, our amazing army behind us we are even stronger so THANK YOU. We feel the love and love you all ❤️

The GoFund Me Appeal: 

Our beautiful friends Emily and Dexter are currently facing a life changing situation. Dexter has suffered a major stroke whilst abroad in Romania which has caused significant speech loss and paralysis on his right side. For the time being Dexter will remain in hospital in Romania as further tests to determine his long term treatment are required before they can even consider his safe repatriation to the UK.

Not only are they having to deal with the extra costs of being abroad for the foreseeable but when they do safely return home they are going to be faced with a huge financial strain with their usual bills, childcare and any additional care that may be key to Dexter’s rehabilitation on top of loss of earnings.

Although they do have medical insurance it will not cover the full extent of what they are facing as there is a long road ahead to recovery. As you all know Dexter and Emily are the first to help and support anyone in their lives and have done so much for so many of us. Their selfless love for others is something we all love about them and now I feel they need our help and support. Anything you can donate will help them both in Dexters recovery and with their return to the UK. We love them both so much and I hope you can help support them during this testing time x
