Help Flavio Defend his Land and Family from Attack
Donation protected
Hello, My name is Andrea and I am raising money for Flavio Santi, an Indigenous Ki-Shuar leader, hereditary shaman, and plant medicine healer of the Ayuy Yu clan of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
Flavio and his tribe are in IMMINENT DANGER AND FACING BODILY HARM AS OF DECEMBER 28th 2023.
URGENT funds are needed to get his tribe to safety as their lands are being overrun by bulldozers trying to make roads for Mineral Extraction and mining.
The Miners are beating and in some cases, raping and killing indigenous leaders who are trying to protect their water and home.
They do this with the support and impunity afforded by the government which is not protecting them any more than the US has protected our Indigenous lands and people.
30K is needed URGENTLY for legal efforts to STOP the destruction.
I met Flavio at the Plant Spirit Medicine conference in November where he shared what they are going through. It was a heartwrenching talk.
If you are using gold, plant medicines, and oil, please consider this as reciprocity work in gratitude to the medicine and how it has benefited you✨️
Flavio Santi's Bio Below
Since the 1990s, he has led an international effort to buy back thousands of acres of jungle in his ancestral territory. As the founder and director of Escuela Wayusa, he is focused on Indigenous youth education in his community.
The Ayuy Yu Clan of the Ecuadorian Amazon are renowned for protecting sacred sites, traditional medicine teachings, and the essentials of the surrounding ecosystem. But they have suffered greatly for it. Due to their resistance over the last half-century of industrial invasion, their community was targeted by the military and their homes were destroyed. They have been afflicted by military assault, assassination, illegal jailing and interrogation, the division of their community by oil company bribery, and the contamination of their ancestral land by potent petrochemical toxins.
The Ayuy Yu’s last remaining hunting territory was invaded in the late 1990s by ARCO Petroleum. They were forced onto a reserve downriver of the city, which is now overcrowded. Hunting and fishing are poor, due to water pollution. But they were culturally prepared for this. The Ayuy Yu have long received visions instructing what must be done to save the culture and the land. In 1993 they knew they would be betrayed by indigenous politicians. The uprising of the 90’s became poisoned by corruption, greed, and deceit. The Santis began to raise funds to privately protect sacred sites by buying them back from settlers with funds raised through the international eco-activist community. They continue to put their lives on the line every day just by living in their home.
While this fight happens every day and has been happening for years, there is real time effort to fight back that is absolutely affected by your choice to fund. Your donation will help them get to safety and get legal assistance to provide future safety.
