Help Jorge beat Leukemia

Donation protected
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jorge was laid off at the YMCA where he worked as a swim coach. A few months after the layoff, while attending online classes he returned to giving private swim and water polo lessons when he started noticing an intense pain in his hip around November that gradually got worse. After multiple trips to the emergency room, doctors finally did a blood test and diagnosed Jorge with Philadelphia Chromosome positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia on February 26th, 2021 at the age of 25.

“Ph+ ALL is a cancer of a type of white blood cell called lymphocytes. What makes it different from standard ALL is that it has a well-known mutation in its genetic code that fuses two genes together (the BCR and ABL genes) that do not normally fuse. This BCR-ABL gene, also known as the Philadelphia Chromosome, can cause the white blood cells to become cancerous” (St Baldrick’s Foundation). His doctors recommend at least four rounds of chemotherapy followed by a bone marrow transplant. After his release from the hospital, Jorge needs to be completely isolated for three months and will need very specific and extra care for 24 hours. He will need at least about six months to return back to his everyday activities and doctors suggest not returning back to work until about a year after his transplant.

Jorge is one of the kindest, most caring people you will ever meet. He brightens up every room he walks into and is always going out of his way to better the lives of everyone around him. I know he means the world to so many people as he does to me. Now it's our turn to come together for Jorge.

All donations will go to his medical costs and helping him get his life back on track. He looks forward to the day he can go back to his active life filled with coaching, surfing, hiking, and spending time with loved ones. Thank you so much for taking the time to read part of his story, any contributions or shares would help in so many ways.

Thank you so much!!!
