Help Detective Benson
Donation protected
I adopted Detective Benson shortly after I moved to Michigan because I was lonely and needed a friend, and he was like winning the shelter lottery. He's had a rough life, but he became the best dog and the best friend a girl could ask for. I am so lucky that I could be his forever home, but "forever" has come a little sooner than I'd hoped.
On Monday my usually-happy-and-healthy boy suddenly couldn't walk. Diagnostics weren't straightforward and took a few days. Some really wonderful professionals have made him much more comfortable, but I just found out late last night that he has hemangiosarcoma - a nasty, aggressive (and in his case, inoperable) cancer that attacks blood vessels. He has days to weeks left.
I got him pet insurance earlier this month, but due to their waiting period, none of this is covered. Diagnostics have already run me $1,000, and y'all *know* how much I hate being this person, but I could use a little help making his final days as painless as possible. I'd like to get him an appointment with a hospice veterinarian for pain management, the easiest trip possible over the rainbow bridge when the time comes, and, of course, all the favorite foods he cares for in the meantime. He really loves bacon and beef jerky.
Both of us would appreciate any help you can give.
Also, if anyone in the area needs recommendations, I have nothing but praise for Animal Welfare Society, Kimball Animal Hospital, and Animal Emergency Center of Rochester. If you're ever a hot mess getting terrible news at 11pm the night before Thanksgiving, you can't do better than Dr. Collins to deliver it with compassion.
Thanks, y'all.
