My dear friend, Deirdre, is a 62-year-old single mom and gig worker and one of the most generous people I know.
On January 25th, her car irretrievably broke down 60 miles from home. It took all her money to get the car, her son, and herself home that night. Then, two weeks later, she suffered a herniated disc and has been confined to bed since then.
As a mobile notary, she cannot work without a vehicle. A lifelong sufferer of osteoarthritis, the disc herniated as she was walking to one of the few gigs available close to home.
As a result, she has been relying on the generosity of a few friends for groceries and prescriptions but little else. Her utilities and property taxes are two months behind, leaving her fearing she will lose her utilities, or worse, the home where she lives with two of her children.
She needs to get a reliable used car to first, get to her doctor for treatment and second, to get back to work. With no income coming in, she has no money for a down payment.
Even a donation of $10 or $25 will make a difference. Any money received not needed for a down payment will go towards living expenses until she’s back on her feet.
