Help Cathy Burton enjoy a better future.

Hi, my name is Bob From Binscarth, Mb. Please help us help Cathy Burton enjoy a better future. She deserves it. Many of you will remember Cathy. She was raised in Binscarth and attended Binscarth School and Russell Major Pratt Collegiate. Cathy was an avid curler, golfer and sports enthusiast when we were growing up. She saw success as a golfer playing in the professional Futures Tour from 1988- 1990. She was a leading force behind the establishment in 1994 of the LPGA Girls Club in Manitoba, the first move into Canada for that program after a successful launch in the United States. It provided opportunities for young girls to get into golf. It was the forerunner of the successful Future Links Girls’ Club program still in operation across Canada for young girls. She also served as national junior women’s coach for the CLGA 1998-2004. She went on to instruct golf at several clubs and finally made her home in Calgary, Ab. Cathy was inducted into the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame in 2009.

Life for Cathy, however, took a turn for the worse. She developed kidney disease and in June 2013 she was put on the Kidney transplant list. The wait began. As time took it's toll, her overall health began declining. She was forced to stick to low sodium, low phosphorous, low potassium diet. She became lactose intolerant and had to stay away from fructose. Ironically, as she lost weight, many people commented to her how great she looked. Some, however, who haven’t seen her for a while, commented on how thin she was getting. When she began dialysis, she needed assistance, to and from the hospital. As she waited for a transplant, she continued to lose a level of health and well-being.

Despite all of this, she continued to set goals for her future and look forward to life after the transplant. Her career as a golf professional continued as it was her passion in life. She loved teaching children to golf and every day she would learn new things about the students she taught and coached, creating a fun positive learning environment, more importantly, she strived to be better at what she did.

In 2020, after a grueling 7 long years, finally she received the much-needed transplant she had been waiting for. However, her recovery did not go well and she experienced many infections and costly medications. On New Year's Eve she landed in the hospital emergency room as she lost vision in her right eye, two months later she lost vision in her left eye. Her career ended. She now lives on CPP disability as she has been unable to work for the last 3 years. She has been forced to sell assets to “Keep The Wolves Away”. She needs our help as she attempts to re-adjust to life with disabilities. She desperately wants to return to a life where she can contribute in some way.

I know as a community and as friends. We can help her. I ask you to assist financially in some way with this GoFundMe. Whatever you can do. Please also share this fundraiser with your community of friends. Your funds and help will be an important part of helping Cathy take back control of her life. They will help cover her day-to-day living expenses and medical costs. Cathy needs our assistance. Let us be there for her.
