Help Cat get their Top Surgery!

Hey folks!

My name is Cat (they/them), I’m 28, and I am transmasc non-binary person of color living in San Diego, CA. I started my journey in 2017, and was able to begin hormone therapy in May, 2021.

Now, I am ready to take the next step in aligning my body with my vision of my truest self— getting top surgery! Since my first puberty, my chest has been an enormous source of anxiety and gender dysphoria. I have been lucky enough to afford binders the past few years, but even safely binding takes its physical tolls over time. At this point, not having top surgery doesn’t feel like an option. I need to get this done in order to deal with intense dysphoria, so I am turning to fundraising to make this happen (although I feel super weird asking for money).

I have been trying to schedule my surgery for the past few months, but things have been held up with the insurance company. I finally have an official date, March 15, 2022!

Thankfully, I won’t have to travel far for my surgery. I have found a surgeon that is in my city, so I won’t have to pay for hotel rooms or travel expenses. I am extremely fortunate to have a loving and caring family (especially my partner and our cat), and my chosen family and friends. All these people have created an amazing support system in my life and I wouldn’t have gotten this far without you. <3

As an artist pursuing an MFA degree, most of my money is going towards grad school and paying bills. Getting top surgery is vital to my transition, but I simply can’t afford it out of pocket. I am asking for $8,000 for the surgery as well as any related expenses that may pop up in my recovery period. I also understand that times are tough so I only ask to spare what you can, and if you cannot then please don’t feel bad!
