Help Car Crash Victim Puppy

We are Kent Wildlife Rescue Service, a small charity based on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, where we have been operating for 17 years and became a registered charity in 2015. Our ethos is the rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife. Due to a change in a large national animal organisation’s policy, we were approached by The Kent Fire and Rescue Service to be on call from 7pm-7 am for all the emergency services’ calls involving animals.

On the 12th of February 2023 at 1:30 am we received a call to attend a serious multi-vehicle collision on the A20 Farningham, near the junction with Eglantine Lane, that sadly resulted in a fatality and a number of casualties including a small puppy. A KWRS volunteer rescuer rushed to the scene and assisted in the rescue of a young Dachshund that was travelling in the car with their owner who was seriously injured in the collision, and to date, is in an induced coma in hospital.

The injured one-year-old puppy was taken straight to an emergency vet where it was stabilised and monitored overnight. The next day the puppy was transferred by our volunteer to one of our regular vet practices. A full assessment was carried out including x-rays and blood tests, it was found that the dog had suffered a spinal compression or possible fracture and an MRI would be needed to confirm a diagnosis and put together a treatment plan. The Dachshund is currently being cared for at a specialist Veterinary Hospital.

This is where we need the help of our animal-loving community to raise funds for the treatment of this dog and to help it recover and be reunited with its owner when they regain consciousness. We would love to give the family some positivity to help during this dark period.

We are hoping to raise £10,000 to cover the vet bill and treatment costs to give this poor dog a chance at a future with their owner. This will cover the MRI and CT imaging, the operation to fix the T10 spinal fracture and the stay in the specialist Veterinary Hospital. The dog will also require ongoing aftercare in the form of physiotherapy and hydrotherapy to help with the recovery process.

We know this is a little bit different to our usual casualties of wildlife, but your donations will mean we can get the much-needed treatment for this dog which will mean so much to the owner and their family and give them hope and comfort during their recovery.
