Dear Friends, Family & Community,

My name is Kenia, and I am one of four children blessed to call Javier my dad. Writing this breaks my heart deeply because I have never done something like this before but I am reaching out to ask for help. This isn’t a new story you hear nowadays, especially with everything going on in the world right now. And unfortunately, it happened to me and my family.

My father, Javier, was taken by ICE. He showed up to his annual court appointment, just as he has every year to prove that he has followed the law and done everything correctly. He works legally, he does not hide from the system and he has lived in the United States for over 27 years, building a life for our family. Anyone who knows him knows he is one of the kindest, most giving, and hardest-working men you could ever meet. He is the backbone of our family, always doing everything he can to provide for us and live by faith and kindness.

Earlier tonight at work, I was able to speak to him for two minutes, and in the background, I could hear officers yelling, He told me he is being held in terrible conditions, and it breaks me to hear him crying and suffering. I felt like I wanted to die in that moment, I’ve NEVER heard or seen him cry, he has always been strong one for us so It’s different to hear his voice cracking away. No one deserves this, especially not a man who has given everything to his family and community. As many know, Alcatraz is a very awful place to be held. The food is minimal and cold, there is no air conditioning, the guards are disgusting and the treatment is deeply inhumane.

Our lawyers are asking for $8,000 to take his case to a federal judge. I have stepped up as head of the household to support my mother and brother and to cover my father’s responsibilities & payments and more but the legal fees are more than I can handle on my own right now. I will get it done with hard work one way or another but I am humbly asking for your help. Whether it’s a small donation or simply sharing our story, it would mean the world to us. Every bit helps us with hope to bringing my father home or at least ensuring that he is safe back in Mexico.

It’s painful to see how unfair this system can be and how good, honest, hard working people are taken away while their families are left broken . “Immigrants” are the ones doing a job that a US citizen won’t do and this world we live in does not appreciate it.From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with us

Mi nombre es Kenia, y soy una de los cuatro hijos que tienen la bendición de llamar papá a Javier. Escribo esto con el corazón destrozado, porque nunca había hecho algo así antes, pero recurro a ustedes para pedir ayuda. Lamentablemente, esta no es una historia nueva, especialmente con todo lo que está pasando en el mundo hoy en día. Y, tristemente, ahora nos ha tocado a mí y a mi familia.

Mi padre, Javier, fue detenido por ICE. Él se presentó a su cita anual en la corte, como lo ha hecho cada año para demostrar que ha seguido la ley y ha hecho todo correctamente. Trabaja legalmente, no se esconde del sistema y ha vivido en los Estados Unidos por más de 27 años, construyendo una vida para nuestra familia. Cualquiera que lo conozca sabe que es uno de los hombres más amables, generosos y trabajadores que uno pueda conocer. Es el pilar de nuestra familia, siempre haciendo todo lo posible por proveer para nosotros y vivir con fe y bondad.

Esta noche, mientras trabajaba, pude hablar con él por dos minutos, y de fondo escuché a los oficiales gritando. Me dijo que lo están reteniendo en condiciones terribles, y me parte el alma escucharlo llorar y sufrir. Sentí que quería morir en ese momento. NUNCA lo había visto ni escuchado llorar; él siempre ha sido el fuerte por nosotros, así que fue devastador oír su voz quebrarse. Nadie merece pasar por esto, especialmente un hombre que lo ha dado todo por su familia y su comunidad. Como muchos saben, Alcatraz es un lugar horrible para estar detenido. La comida es mínima y fría, no hay aire acondicionado, los guardias son repugnantes y el trato es profundamente inhumano.

Nuestros abogados están pidiendo $8,000 para llevar su caso ante un juez federal. Yo he asumido el papel de cabeza del hogar para apoyar a mi madre y mi hermano, y para cubrir las responsabilidades y pagos de mi padre, entre otras cosas, pero los costos legales son más de lo que puedo afrontar sola en este momento. Lo lograré con trabajo duro, de una forma u otra, pero humildemente les pido su ayuda. Ya sea con una pequeña donación o simplemente compartiendo nuestra historia, significaría el mundo para nosotros. Cada granito de arena nos da esperanza de traer a mi padre a casa o, al menos, de asegurarnos de que esté a salvo en México.

Es doloroso ver lo injusto que puede ser este sistema, cómo personas buenas, honestas y trabajadoras son arrancadas de sus familias, dejándolas destrozadas. Los “inmigrantes” son quienes hacen los trabajos que los ciudadanos estadounidenses no quieren hacer, y este mundo no los valora como deberían. Desde el fondo de mi corazón, gracias por leer, por preocuparse y por apoyarnos.
