Help Brent Heal After His Stroke
This week, Brent, my sister Anne's partner in life and business suffered an unexpected and life-changing stroke. He is currently in the Neurological ICU at KU Medical Center in Kansas City. The medical team is running tests to determine next steps for his treatment and recovery. Anne and Brent's daughter Kelsey are by his side, and we’re all deeply grateful for the care he’s receiving.
We ask that you keep Brent in your thoughts, prayers, and good energy as he begins this unexpected journey.
Brent’s stroke has impacted his ability to work and care for himself. His recovery will take time and significant rehabilitation.
Anne now faces the difficult task of both supporting Brent through his recovery and managing the small business they built together. In the immediate term, she needs to pack up from the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, where Brent was working this week, and then travel to Arkansas to close out commitments where she was working. After that, she’ll return to Kansas City to care for Brent full time.
This means that both Anne and Brent will be unable to work for the foreseeable future as they focus on his healing and recovery.
Why We’re Asking for Help
Brent and Anne have spent years building a life rooted in creativity, craftsmanship, and community. They are active participants in the Renaissance festival circuit, where they share their artistry and help create spaces of joy and belonging for others.
They are also deeply involved with the RESCU Foundation, a national nonprofit that provides financial and medical assistance to the craftspeople, performers, and volunteers who bring Renaissance faires to life. They do this because they know that members of this unique community do not always have access to essential medical care and support in times of crisis. They have worked to make support possible for others. Now, they find themselves in need of that same kind of compassion and support.
