Hello! My name is Deb and I am Boomers Mom. Boomer is 36 and has Down Syndrome. His father passed away in 1998 so I am his sole caregiver. In 2019 Boomer collapsed and had a stroke. He was diagnosed with Moyamoya. In simple terms, it causes narrowing of the artery to the brain which causes strokes and seizures. There is no cure. He is unable to do strenuous activities because it could cause another stroke or seizure. I do things with him but he frankly is bored, as we live in a small town and there is little to do. People with Down Syndrome need to do things to stimulate their minds or they regress and having both Down Syndrome and Moyamoya puts him at greater risk of that happening. He wants to travel and asks me every day if we can "go on vacation". I am on disability and cannot afford to pay for motels to stay in on a vacation. If we only had a camper, we could take trips and do things to keep his mind active and stimulated. As with any mother, I just want him to be able to live his best life and with the acute danger from the Moyamoya, that life could be cut short at any time.
