We’re Christian and Rebecca, Avery’s parents.
Avery was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatoblastoma, which is a very rare and aggressive form of pancreatic cancer that affects fewer than 1 in 25 million people.
In 2019, he went through a massive surgery to give him a chance at life. During that surgery, he lost his pancreas, gallbladder, spleen, duodenum, half of his liver, part of his stomach, and several feet of his small intestines. Because of that, he is now also a Type 1 diabetic and has to manage that every single day.
This didn’t end with surgery. Avery still has ongoing medical needs, frequent hospital visits, and complications from everything his body has been through.
What makes this even harder to explain is that through all of it, he is still just a kid who wants to enjoy life.
Avery loves Pokémon. Opening packs, collecting cards, and creating content around it is something that genuinely makes him happy. It gives him something to look forward to, especially on days when he’s at the hospital or not feeling well.
He also uses what he loves to give back. When he’s at the hospital, he brings Pokémon cards to share with other kids. He opens packs with them, gives cards away, and tries to give them the same excitement and distraction that helps him.
He’s always thinking about other kids, even while going through all of this himself.
Avery also has a goal he talks about all the time. He wants to reach 100,000 subscribers on YouTube so he can earn a Silver Play Button. For him, that goal means a lot. It gives him something positive to focus on and work toward.
As his parents, we’re doing everything we can to support him and give him the best life possible. That includes his medical care, getting him to appointments, and helping him continue doing the things that bring him joy.
The reality is that the financial side of this has been overwhelming. Medical bills, hospital visits, travel, and time away from work have all added up over the years.
We’ve had so many people reach out asking how they can support Avery or where they can donate along his journey, so we created this page for anyone who feels called to help.
