B-ALL: B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia... a diagnosis nobody wants.

This GoFundMe is to raise money for my sister Athena and her daughter Rosie through her battle with leukemia. Just two weeks ago, Athena heard the words nobody wants to hear, you have cancer. Unfortunately, our family has had more than our fair share of cancer and hardship this year. Our mom is battling lung cancer as well. She has 15 months of immunotherapy left while "Beamer" (Athena's nickname because of her radiant, beaming smile) is just beginning her own cancer treatments. Athena just started a new job in November and her full leave benefits have not begun yet. This means while fighting for her life, she also needs to figure out how to keep paying rent, buying groceries for Rosie, and caring for herself and her loved ones. All at 50% pay. In this economy?! Around the holidays?! We know, we know... When it rains, it pours.

Athena is currently at Smilow Cancer Center Yale New Haven and is expected to be there for at least 2-3 more weeks depending on how her body and the cancer respond to treatment. She will be in and out of Smilow for the next 6-12 months as they work to contain the malignancies and work towards a stem cell transplant. She will unfortunately be out of work through most of this battle. Athena has an incredible team of leukemia specialists working around the clock to help her kick cancer's ass.
