Our Sweet Amelia Needs Your Help

Amelia, our 18-month-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, has been through more in her short life than most dogs ever will.

At just 8 months old, she underwent her first emergency surgery to repair a herniated diaphragm. The complications were severe, and the odds were stacked against her—but against all expectations, she survived. After months of healing, Amelia returned to a happy, normal life, full of love, energy, and playfulness.

That all changed recently.

We took her to the vet because she was in pain, hoping for a simple solution. Instead, things spiraled into another emergency. The hernia had returned, requiring yet another high-risk surgery. As if that weren’t enough, during the procedure, the situation escalated even further—the damage was so extensive that the surgeons had to remove approximately 75% of her GI tract just to save her life.

A Fighter Hanging On by a Thread

The surgery itself was beyond risky. Amelia crashed on the operating table, requiring massive amounts of blood pressure medication to keep her alive. Afterward, we faced yet another terrifying battle: the same life-saving medications that kept her heart beating could have permanently damaged her kidneys. For days, we waited in agony, unsure if her kidneys would ever function properly again.

Miraculously, her kidneys pulled through.

She survived the impossible surgery. She fought off potential kidney failure. But now, she faces the hardest battle yet—learning to live with a drastically altered digestive system. Every day is a fight, and she is hanging on by a thread.

Why We Need Your Help

We love Amelia with all our hearts and are doing everything in our power to give her the care she desperately needs. But the financial strain is overwhelming.

We have pet insurance, but here’s the heartbreaking part:

We got the policy shortly after she was born.

It only pays 100% of costs in the third year of coverage.

In this second year, it only covers $1,400 per year—not nearly enough to cover even a fraction of the emergency bills.
