Help Aamir Recover After a Devastating Apartment Fire
On the night of Wednesday, November 19, 2025, a catastrophic fire tore through Building F at The Social Seminole, a student housing community near FSU. Early reports indicate the fire originated in the exterior stairway and breezeway, resulting in exits blocked by flames. Among the residents was Aamir Hussain Mohammad, a hardworking second-year Master’s student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Florida State University. When the fire erupted around 10:30 PM, it spread with overwhelming speed, trapping students inside and engulfing the building. Aamir was caught in the blaze and suffered severe 3rd-degree burns to 48% of his body while trying to escape. He lost consciousness during the chaos and was rescued with life-threatening injuries. Aamir is now being treated in the UF Health Shands Burn Unit in Gainesville, fighting through intense pain and facing an extremely long and difficult recovery. His family lives overseas and is struggling to arrange travel to be by his side. Everything Aamir owned—his clothing, computer, documents, and daily essentials—was completely destroyed in the fire. He escaped with only his life.
