Help Single Mom of 2 on Mat Leave Rebuild After Fire

I am reaching out on behalf of my dear friend, Celine Grimard, and her beautiful children, my nephews Anu and Tayo, who have faced an unimaginable loss. On January 8, 2024, a tragic fire, sparked by a situation involving a homeless individual seeking warmth near their storage unit. The fire completely destroyed everything they owned. Imagine waking up and seeing the first outfit your kids wore, or the shoes your kids took their first steps in - all turned to ash.

Celine is a resilient single mother, who has been tirelessly and courageously navigating life's challenges. Believe me, when I say that. I have seen her making the bravest decision to leave domestic violence while eight months pregnant with her second son and her almost 2 year old attached to her hip. She found refuge with her parents, and together, they have been a huge support for the little ones.

Now, as they stand on the threshold of a new beginning, Celine is soon coming out of maternity leave and is confronted with the overwhelming task of rebuilding their lives from scratch. The fire took everything from clothe hangers, beds, couches, wardrobes to kitchen supplies like her favourite coffee mug. All the simple comforts of home that many of us take for granted… everyday. I cannot imagine being in her shoes and still she’s smiling while talking to the little ones. Her resilience is remarkable.

As Celine’s friend and the aunt to her wonderful sons, I am witness to their strength, love, all the hardships they’ve faced and resilience. She managed to get enough from insurance to replace their mattresses. However, they cannot do this alone. They need our help to gather the essential items that will enable them to start anew - to create a home where they can heal and re-build their lives.
