My name is Kareem Rahma, and I am reaching out to our community to ask for urgent help for a dear friend, Norman, and his beautiful family.
I met Norman while we were shooting an episode of Keep The Meter Running, and he has an incredible and generous spirit.
Norman is a cornerstone of New York City. He has lived here for 35 years, and for the last 15 of them, he has spent his days and nights behind the wheel of an NYC taxi, keeping our city moving. He is a devoted husband and a loving father to two incredible kids.
Right now, Norman and his family are facing an incredibly tough crisis. Because of the massive decrease in taxi fares over recent years, combined with the predatory and abhorrent cost of the loans required just to own a taxi medallion, Norman has been squeezed out of his livelihood.
Despite working tireless hours, the math simply no longer works. He has fallen behind on his mortgage, and his family is now at immediate risk of losing their home.
Norman has given 15 years of hard work to New York City, and it is heartbreaking to see a system break a family that has done everything right. We are raising funds to:
- Catch up on delinquent mortgage payments to immediately halt the risk of foreclosure.
- Create a financial cushion for his wife and two children while Norman navigates the next steps with his career and medallion debt.
