This is Makisha. In September of 2024 she had a major stroke, pulmonary embolism and brain bleed. She is still missing part of her skull that was removed to relieve pressure. I am her mother. I have been caring for her since her discharge. She has not had any physical therapy, speech therapy or Occupational therapy. I am also disabled and do the best I can. Currently Makisha receives minimal money from Social Securoty. She has Medicaid but that doesn’t cover a lot. We still pay for co-pays for prescriptions and doctor appointments. She is confined to her bed or wheelchair. She has to use adult diapers, bed pads, and wipes. None of which is covered by anyone. These things alone cost a couple hundred a month. She needs a lot of help with covering the cost and helping with everyday living. There have been quite a few times we had to go without eating because there was no money for food. We are not sure if Makisha will ever be able to walk again or speak clearly. Currently she is paralyzed on her right side and her speech is very limited. She is good at cussing though lol. That was the first thing she said when she woke up in the hospital. What we are finding is that the state we live in (Texas) does not care if the most vulnerable people can survive. It is just me caring for Makisha and with my limited income and disability it has been very difficult. We truly need your help! All proceeds from this go directly towards Makisha’s care.
