Our health is the greatest wealth we can maintain. Unfortunately, I recently found out my health wasn’t bringing me that wealth anymore. In August of 2017, doctors diagnosed me with a brain tumor. Though I try to keep my spirits lifted in spite of my situation, I can’t continue to ignore the realities my condition has brought upon me. I am currently the primary caretaker of my grandmother who suffers from dementia and relies on me for everything. The demands of caring for her, being conscious of my brain condition, and trying to work 45 hour weeks for the sake of making ends meet is deterring me from paying for my treatments to help save and improve the quality of my own life. I have decided to forego chemotherapy and radiation as the chances of recovery through those routes is not likely, and will render me useless in regard to my grandmother’s care. I am the perfect candidate for alternative medicine practices, but my insurance will not cover it sense they’ve deemed that I “don’t have cancer cells throughout my body.” The condition of my tumor will only worsen if I don’t begin the treatment soon.

Alternative medicine is a more natural route that will allow me the most use of my body while treating the tumor so that my grandmother will still have the care and support she so desperately needs. My decision to not undergo chemo and radiation is mainly because of the heightened stress that it would place on my grandmother who only has me to care for her.

If you could be so kind as to help me with the costs of alternative medicine I will be forever indebted. It’s taking a lot to set my pride aside to consider the bigger picture— keeping myself healthy so that I can continue to be a blessing to my grandmother and those who love me.
