As you know I'm doing a little live concert Friday the 27th @ 8pm Irish time on Facebook and I thought I may be able to do something small for a wonderful community based initiative in Headford.
I put my thinking cap on and put a few ideas to paper and with the help of a few friends we said if we could raise enough money to pay for a full week of Meals on Wheels wouldn't it be mighty?
For those of you who don't know much about this service this is what it provides.
For the elderly, vulnerable and those who are house bound Solas Family Resource Centre provide dinners Monday - Friday at the small cost of €6 per meal.
Given the current pandemic and seeing it first hand with my own mother and parents in law how some people are not in a position to want to leave their homes and may not be in a position to collect their pension or have means to their financial institutes as our bank has closed to minimize the risk of infection - I thought why not try and have one less bill for those to pay.
There's currently 35* people who are registered for the Meals on Wheels service in the town and we are hoping to raise enough money to pay for their meals on the week starting Monday the 20th of April and finishing Friday the 24th.
If we go over our target the remaining balance will go towards the upkeep of this service. As you can imagine the cost or insurance and keeping the van road worthy is very expensive. In these tough times a little goes a long way. Even as little as €6 will cover the cost of a dinner. Knowing the people of Headford & the surrounding areas that benefit from this scheme I have no doubt we can achieve this target. Thanks for reading and don't forget to donate.
