Hearing Aids for Michael
Donation protected
Meet Michael R., an employee at Lakeside Park. Michael developed a high fever when he was a small child and lost his hearing. Michael wears special hearing aids that block background noise and help him hear a small percent. Michael reads lips and communicates verbally and with sign language. He teaches a weekly sign language class to our residents, families and staff.
Michael has taught us all so much about working with and serving the needs of those who live with hearing loss for example, slow down, face people and talk slowly and clearly not only so they understand but so we are fully engaged in the moment and the communication.
Michael is an inspiration to all who meet him. His mission is to bridge the gap between the hearing world and the deaf culture and he practices this every day. Michael is one of the sweetest people I know.
Unfortunately hearing aids wear out and they are expensive. Michael cannot afford replacements which are so necessary for him in his communication. Our goal is to raise $5000 in the next 2 weeks so Michael can order his new hearing aids. Every dollar helps and any amount will be appreciated.
