My name is Lauren Wismer. I am 26 years old. I have two rare diseases: Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome & Hypogammaglobulinemia. The Ehlers-Danlos is a disease that is causing my body to slowly fall apart. It is a connective tissue disease that affects every system in the body. The hypogammaglobulinemia is a primary immune deficiency. As a result of the hypogam. I have to receive IV infusions every 14 days in order to have a more normal functioning immune system.
I originally started this GoFundMe to help pay for medical expenses and for my upcoming trips to see Ehlers-Danlos specialists. Plans have had to change. My condition has gotten worse & I now need to travel to Denver, CO to see a specialist and to have a GI procedure. I need to have the procedure ASAP. The doctor wants me there early next week, but I can't make that happen without help. I need help to come up with $3,500 to pay for the medical portion of the trip, about $700 for airfare & $450 for lodging.
I have lost my ability to swallow. I am no longer able to get enough fluid in to stay hydrated or enough nutrients for my body to continue functioning. During the past three weeks I have needed rehydration in the ER 3 times & have spent 1 night in the ICU. On average I am only able to get down 8oz of liquid throughout the day. I am unable to take my oral medications. Eating causes a lot of pain and coughing. The longer I go without this procedure the higher the chance for severe medical complications that could result in death.
Doctors in my home town have not been able to help me. My immune deficiency and the Ehlers-Danlos syndrome complicate the procedure & results in doctors referring me onto someone else. This doctor in Colorade can help me! She is comfident and already fighting for me. She is even fighting to get me into an Ehlers specialist in that area while I am there. We spoke on the phone 24 hours ago and she already has my medical records and is scheduling the procedure, tests, appointments & follow-ups, but I can't go without the funds.
I just started teaching at a local high school which has been my lifelong dream. I love my job more than anything. Teaching is amazing & something that brings joy to my life. I'm fighting, so I can continue to teach & thrive as an individual.
Please help me raise an additional $4,650. I can't live if I can't get fuel into my body!
