Dylan was born with Con-genitive heart Defect, medical terns " An unbalanced AV canal, double outlet right ventricle and transportation of the greater arteries" he had 3 heart surgeries from 7 days old, 4 months old and 4 years old a series's of 3 Pre planned, PT Shunt, Glen and a Fontan.
I met Dylan when he was 3, he was small but loud, funny and smart. You couldn’t tell his little heart was in trouble.
Dylan now 19 is still smart, funny and is loved by all who meet him, he just finished his first year of college in Florida. A young man who loves to skateboard, hangout with his friends, work as a YMCA counselor and works part time in retail.
The family has always known Dylan may need a 4th open heart surgery and 3 months ago the Dr's at Children's hospital deemed it necessary to fix his atrium valve and they would replace the Fontan, this past May Dylan received his surgery an
" S/P Fontan re-do, tricuspid valve repair/annuloplastry ring' .
He spent 7 days in the ICU and is home recovering, in lots of pain, but expected and he is looking forward to healing and getting back to his life.
Dylan is the first child/adult to have his Fontan replace in the history of Children's hospital and the doctors are calling it a success.
Thru the years the family has been very fortunate to have state insurance for Dylan and his medical bill were mostly covered, but this May during the surgery, the family was told he would no longer qualify and as of May 31st his insurance would be cancelled.
The family made appeals and without a letter or notice to the family the insurance was left in review, Maria found out the insurance was cancelled on the way to a follow up visit. This has left Dylan in lapse of coverage. Maria got the hospital to agree to let Dylan get all his treatments and the family would assume all of it. The family is now frantically searching for insurance they will give Dylan the coverage he need.
Dylan and Maria are at the hospital every 3 days for his follow ups , blood work, plasma tastings cardiologist, echo, ekgs , it seems they are being called in constantly.
The estimated montly cost is $10,000 - 13,000
The family is deeply worried about Dylan’s wellness and at a lost of having no insurance for him. Please all pitch in and help alleviate the stress of financial burden from his medical bills while Dylan’s heart is healing. Please help them no donation is too small. Thank you!
