Happiness Packages for Refugees
We, the Global Shapers Munich and other hubs in collaboration with “Europecares” are organising crucial items for refugees staying in Greek refugee camps.
In the beginning of September, the Moria refugee camp on the island Lesbos, one of Europe’s largest camps, where over 10,000 people lived, was destroyed by a fire. Living conditions for refugees in Lesbos have now worsened even more, just when winter is on its way. Many refugees cannot fulfill their basic hygiene needs and do not have places to sleep.
More than ever, they need items like soap, toothbrushes, masks, sanitizers, first aid kits, water filter bottles or baby food to survive these conditions.
Our initial idea was to deliver so-called “Happiness Packages” with items of basic hygiene to unaccompanied minors in the Moria refugee camp in Greece. With the changed conditions, we have now decided to broaden our scope: instead of unaccompanied minors, we now focus on a wider community of refugees.
The Global Shapers are working with companies and other nonprofits to donate basic hygiene products to improve their living conditions. We will use the money we collect on Go Fund Me to provide refugees with the necessary items which we are still lacking from company donations.
