Take a bite out of homelessness
Donation protected
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
My name is Judy Longo and I am serving as Pastoral Director of Seashore Mission, a mission of the United Methodist Church in Biloxi. Seashore Mission is a day shelter providing vital services to the local homeless community. We also provide worship services each Sunday.
We offer three full meals, showers, laundry, telephone, computer use, mail service, Pastoral care, clothing and internet service to an average of 80-100 homeless persons. In addition, we assist with applications for employment, housing, food stamps, and rehabilitation opportunities for addictions.
In June, we moved into our new location at 856 Division Street. When we took possession, the building was essentially a shell. With the generous help of volunteers, new floors, walls, electrical, HVAC and plumbing have been completed to 70% of the building.
We need your help to complete the remaining 30% of the building so that it will be fully functional. This will involve completion of the interior work, which includes a permanent kitchen, full laundry facilities, clothing storage, and a food pantry. Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 to complete this phase.
With much prayer and thought, I have decided to “go homeless” until we raise the funds needed to complete the facility. In the next few weeks, I will be living on the streets with our community of homeless as a means of calling attention to their need for God’s love and to seek monetary support. We are asking for the support of you in obtaining donations for this effort.
Thank you for your consideration of our request. I am confident that we can count on your generosity.
Sincerely,
Judy Longo, Pastor
