Hello, my name is Glenda M Whitson. Two years ago, I was doing a routine exam of my body, and I found a small quarter-size lump in my groin area. By the time I got in to see the Dr. the lump had grown to silver dollar size. After two more weeks, it had grown to a much bigger mass. Dr. Huie then decided to do surgery to remove it and place a power port in me as my veins were inferior. I was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Non-Hodgkins lymphoma a very rare form of cancer. I have gone through some pretty aggressive therapy since then. I had twenty-six weeks of chemo and 12 rounds of radaiton. Now the 26 sessions of chemo went like this five days a week. Usually starting at nine am with labs then infusions starting half-hour later the infusions would last anywhere from two to six hours. The 12 rounds of radiation were three days a week and filled on my chemo short days. I lost my hair twice then. It was long and grueling and took a lot out of me, but it felt good when those weeks were over.
Of course, during this time, covid hit and Jen and both of us came down with it, but we survived that as well
My daughter and I took a well-deserved vacation to New Orleans. Even though many attractions were just reopening, we enjoyed ourselves very much. This was a trip we had planned to do before all this cancer stuff had hit in the first place.
Last year when I found another lump that was not as large but was right at the surface, Dr. did another surgery to remove it. I was again scheduled for more chemo and radiation, but this time things are not going as well. In January, the Dr. informed me that I am now considered termenial, which means I may not have much longer. He says if I live till the end of the year, I will do good. I have had at least 16 pints of blood. I have lost 95 pounds and been in the hospital more times than I care to count, but I will continue to fight right up till the end.
I have always been a strong single parent who has always put my children first and lived paycheck to paycheck, never thinking too much about the future. Now here I find myself in a position knowing I will not have enough to pay all my final expenses. I spent my life volunteering, helping others, and paying my bills and student loans.
I humbly ask, if any of you read this could help a friend in need, I would be eternally grateful.
your humble friend
