Give Gertie the Care She Deserves

Thank you for taking the time to consider helping my sweet Gertie girl.

Let me tell you about her. She's stubborn and sweet. We've had her for about 2 of her 12ish years on this planet. The 10 or so before that were awful for her. She was abused and neglected. We adopted her from TAPS and even after she had been with them for several months she was skin and bones. We adopted her because there is a sweet spot in my heart for the senior babies.

She is spunky and loves her life. She's older, but she was doing well and we and the doctors believe she can get there again. Last Sunday evening, she was trying to jump onto our bed, which she does several times daily. But this time, I was giving her a pork rind and she's very food motivated. So instead of jumping up normally, she lost her mind and tried to jump over the foot board, which she cannot clear. She hit her ribs right across a metal bar which hurt her. She didn't initially have much of an issue but about 15 minutes later a large mass formed on her side and she was in pain.

We took her immediately to an emergency vet. They did an xray and said she was ok and sent us home with anti-inflammatory medications. The next two days she was clearly uncomfortable but seemed to manage. Thursday evening, the mass doubled in size and she was in a lot of pain. We had to take her to University of Illinois Vet Clinic in Champaign because the local ER Vets didn't have the ability to test further.

After being seen there and being there all night, it was decided that Gertie would be in the best care to be admitted to manage her pain and figure out what was going on with her. She's been in there since.

I spoke to the doctor today and we're anticipating surgery to remove the mass so she can no longer have pain. This, of course, is a substantial cost to us. The cost of the care so far has pretty much tapped us out. We believe Gertie is going to be well and live several more years of life and love which she was robbed of by cruel people the majority of her life.

Can you please help us cover this surgery and get our girl home so she can be loved and cherished? It pains me to ask, but not as much as it does to be apart from her and her not be well.
