Give Ben a Chance: Donate to Help Save a Stray!

Deducible
Tiny Ben came into a local Animal Control unable to walk. His front legs were swollen and frozen so that he was essentially army crawling on his elbows and knees. He was also running a fairly significant fever.

When the joints were needle aspirated and the fluid examined under the microscope, it was found to contain high numbers of bacteria. He was started on antibiotics appropriate for a 6-week-old baby, and a medical rescue was searched for.

Our local rescue partner was contacted, who then reached out to see if Save Our Strays had anyavailability for this baby…who would likely need additional workup, medications and physical therapy.

We were on board.

Ben was transferred to the rescue and admitted to the veterinary hospital. Ben is a happy little boy, in spite of his physical issues. He is getting physical therapy every day, along with k-laser treatments. The swelling is down in all of his joints, and he is actually up on his back legs, but the elbows are still constricted.

Soft splints are being applied, alternating, two days on, two days off, in hopes of straightening those front legs into a normal position. Ben plays with the other kittens in foster, eats very energetically and enthusiastically, and uses his litter box without issues. Ben may never be completely normal, so we have begun to put feelers out for a special needs home.

Save Our Strays stepped up for this little broken boy, at a time when others were reluctant to. His medical costs will be higher than for a normal kitten. Not only will he need regular vetting…vaccines, worming, neutering, he will also continue to require therapy for the foreseeable future.

Can you find it in your heart to help us…help Ben?

As the season for giving starts, I would like to tell you about our organization,
and the worthiness of your considering making a donation to Save Our Strays.
We are a grassroots organization that started out in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn,
where the need was, and still is extremely high. The need to help animals across our
country is crucial. We need your help.

We were received with high enthusiasm, and the group grew. As members
moved to other states, i.e.: Florida, New Jersey and other parts of the United States,
they took Save Our Strays with them, and for 56 years we have been helping stray
animals with food, and medical care.

We are at a point where we need to reach out to the communities, and ask for
help in order to continue our work. We are a 501(c)(3) Tax deductible organization.
No one on the Board of Directors receives any compensation. We are asking for
funds, so that we can continue to feed the strays in the colonies that we oversee. Our
medical bills are covered by a bequest we received, but it does not allow food to be
purchased.

So please, as you prepare to sit down to your Thanksgiving dinner, please
donate whatever you can, so that we may be able to continue our Food Program. We
supplement many rescuers that use their own money to feed the strays, but with so
many homeless animals in the streets, we need your help. Please help us find a way to
continue our Feeding Program. We need to feed the strays in order to keep their
strength up to live another day, this is what we all want, to live!!
