Help John fight cancer
Don protégé
Many of you know that this year my dad was diagnosed with Bile duct cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma) a type of liver cancer. It was fortunately diagnosed early due to another medical condition called PSC (Primary sclerosing cholangitis) an auto immune disease that causes scarring of the bile ducts, and though we would prefer Dad only has one problem to deal with, he constantly outdoes himself.
Cholangiocarcinoma is a relatively rare disease and currently the only cure involves radiation, chemo and a liver transplant. Due to the aggressive nature of the cancer, successful treatment is contingent upon finding a live liver donor that can be ready to donate a portion of their liver once chemo and radiation have been completed (don’t worry the liver grows back, it’s totally freaky).
While medical insurance will cover both Dad and the donors medical costs, it does not cover many of the associated costs, primarily the recovery for both Dad and the Donor. Both of my Parents have been self employed for the past 25 years and it’s likely that Dad will be out of work for 2 to 3 months and Mom will be working while caring for him. We are also anticipating that the donor will be out of work for 4 to 6 weeks. We would like to support them financially during that recovery so that they don’t need to use up all their sick and vacation time and to support their caretakers during recovery.
We would appreciate any help you can offer! Every little bit will help relieve the burden and stress of this diagnosis and treatment.
