Gemma's Gender Affirming Surgery

Our beloved Gemma will be having gender affirming top surgery on April 8th 2024. For those of you who know Gemma, you will know that they are not one to put themselves in the spotlight. This is where we have stepped in, to invite the wider community - both those who know and love Gemma, and those who don't - to support them as they undergo this life changing procedure.

Gemma is generous, thoughtful, compassionate and funny, and has the biggest of hearts. We want to take this opportunity to shower them with that love and support that they share so openly, during this monumental time in their life.

Some background on Gemma's surgery:

Gemma has been binding their chest for 11yrs and considering top surgery for 20. With the support of medical professionals, they have made the decision to undergo gender affirming top surgery. This procedure is essential for Gemma to find happiness and peace within themselves and their body, and how they move through the world. As big as the procedure will be - they are soo excited!

Gemma’s specific surgery is not currently subsidised through Medicare and costs $14,500 out of pocket. Gemma works in a physically demanding profession, as a (very talented) qualified carpenter, so as well as the cost of the surgery, will have to deplete their personal leave while recovering for 6wks.

We are requesting donations towards this cost to support Gemma as they make this life-affirming change in their body, so that they don't have to do it alone.
