Medical Service Trip to Guatemala
Don protégé
This March, the medical, PA, and pharmacy students and faculty of UT Southwestern Medical Center and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center will travel to Guatemala to provide clinical care to medically underserved communities in rural aldeas (villages). Many of the cities surrounding San Felipe lack critical access to medical care and are in desperate need of the services we intend to provide. In preparation for our trip, our group is continuing to raise funds needed for a group of 25 healthcare professionals to provide the resources necessary to host a free clinic for one week! We are partnering with Hilario Galindo Hospital, a local hospital, and local physicians to provide sustainable care to the people of San Felipe and its neighboring villages. This year's trip also has chosen to focus on women's health and hopes (pending institutional approval) to survey local women about their access to obstetrical/gynecological care, reproductive health resources, contraception options and opinions, and local practices/beliefs surrounding women's healthcare. We will also be distributing washable, re-usable cloth menstrual pads from Days for Girls (https://www.daysforgirls.org/dfg-kits) to our female patients. Any financial aid you can contribute to our trip would be deeply appreciated! Thank you!
Below are photos from our 2019 medical clinics in the rural towns surrounding Antigua. We provided care to over 500 patients in the span of 5 days, the majority of which were women and children. This year, we are slated to see almost double that amount so any contributions would be incredibly appreciated!
